Nutcrackers > Ulbricht > Tour Birds

Since 1997 these delightful bird nutcrackers have been issued in limited quantities during Ulbricht's U.S. signing tour. A handful of shops are selected each year to host a signing event with Gunther Ulbricht. 2023 will mark the twenty-fifth consecutive bird design to be released in this series having missed two years due to the Worldwide Covid Pandemic. Both U.S. Tours were cancelled in 2020-2021 Gunther Ulbricht has already released images of a "Cracking Bird" for this year - See the Osprey below designed by his son, Steffen Ulbricht, also a certified Master Wood Turner. The series began with the "Woodpecker" in 1997, an actual replica of a 1933 nutcracker, originally designed by Otto Ulbricht, Gunther's grandfather. He created this Cracking Bird to commemorate the birth of his son Christian Ulbricht in that year. These delightful miniature bird nutcrackers are highly sought after and typically sell out during the signing events, perhaps because they are not as seasonal and look great sitting on display throughout the year. Below you'll find that we have a few of the older Tour Birds from previous years that are still available. The 2023 Bird is a Osprey, while the 2022 bird was a Barn Owl.
You will find our Ulbricht nutcrackers organized within these twelve groups...

Corbie the Raven <br> 2013 Ulbricht Tour Bird

The Corbie is the seventeenth addition to this series of
annual tour "cracking birds" that the Ulbricht firm has
created since 1997. So where does the name,
"Corbie"
come from? Well...it's actually a Scottish name for Crow or Raven, derived from the Old French corbin from the Latin corvînus corvine. This tourbird nutcracker was released in conjunction with our visit from Gunther Ulbricht to our shop on 15 November 2013 and at a handful of other select retail collectibles shops across the country hosting Ulbricht signing events. Made in Germany by Holzkunst Christian Ulbricht Limited Edition 5-3/8 Inches - 13,6 cm
