Reared on a West Virginia farm he spent most of his life residing in Cincinnati.
Charley sadly passed away on June 10th, 2007. His artwork, his humor and his
kind heart will be sorely missed by all whom he has met and touched. Charley
Harper had made three personal appearances at The Frame Workshop.

Canyon Country by Charley Harper
Charley Harper (American, 1922–2007) designed more than
fifty posters for various natural areas, parks, and
conservation organizations. Each celebrated a special part
of our natural world in his unmistakable style. His
distinctive use of simple shapes, geometric patterns, and
vivid colors—a style he defined as minimal realism—
succinctly captured the essence of each creature he
portrayed.
Canyon Country is one of ten posters Harper was
commissioned to create for the US National Park Service.
Here he depicted public lands in southern Utah, northern
Arizona, eastern Nevada, and western Colorado. His
landscape teems with the wildlife that thrives in the
desert Southwest’s dramatic terrain.
