Chianti Inge-glas Ornament
Gourmet Christmas
Technically, Chianti wine is any wine produced in the
Chianti region, within central Tuscany, Italy.
Chianti was historically associated with a squat bottle
enclosed in a straw basket, called a fiasco. However, the
fiasco is only used by a few makers of the wine today.
Most Chianti is currently bottled in a more standard shaped
wine bottles.
Baron Bettino Ricasoli (later Prime Minister of the Kingdom
of Italy) created the Chianti recipe of 70% Sangiovese, 15%
Canaiolo and 15% Malvasia bianca grapes in the middle of
the nineteenth century. Read more on this subject on

Liebfraumilch - German Wine Inge-glas Ornament
Gourmet Christmas
Liebfraumilch literally means "Beloved lady's milk" in German.
While the term Liebfraumilch is associated with low quality
wine, German Wine Law requires it to be at the Qualitätswein
bestimmter Anbaugebiete (QbA) level - the 3rd rank of 4. It
must also be from Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Nahe or Rheingau, the
grapes used must be at least 70% Riesling, Silvaner or Müller-
Thurgau. This popular sweet, white wine is mostly an export
wine.

Franconian White Wine - Juliusspital
Gourmet Christmas
Probably the oldest depiction of a Bocksbeutel appears right in
the middle of a 16th-century stone relief mounted on an exterior
wall of the Juliusspital. Maybe it was meant to symbolize a
medical flask...
...but it could also have been a wine bottle, a forerunner of
the Bocksbeutelas we know it today: a flattish, spherical-
shaped bottle with a short neck.
