Terrassenbrotchen or Terrassenplätzchen (Terrace Cookies or
Terrace Biscuits) are a traditional Christmas cookie that Oma
(German for Grandma) would make... They can be two, three or
even more layers, creating the terraces, hence the name.
The fruit center reminds us of an English Jammie
Dodger if you have some Anglo blood in you. These
were first introduced in the UK in 1960 by the Burton's
Biscuit Company. Wonder if someone there had some German
heritage.
What a fun new ornament regardless...

Speculoos
Inge-glas Ornament
Speculoos, as they’re called in Belgium, are spiced gingerbread
shortcrust cookies that are traditionally made and eaten on St.
Nicholas Day and throughout the Christmas holiday season.
They’re traditionally embossed with designs using wooden molds,
special rolling pins, or cookie stamps. Speculoos are likewise
popular in the Netherlands (speculaas or Dutch windmill cookies)
and Germany (spekulatius).
Whether you know them as speculoos, speculaas, spekulatius or
Biscoff, few things are as irresistible as these positively
delicious, buttery gingerbread shortcrust cookies! But don't
eat this one as it is made of hand painted blown glass...
