Even on the pier, peer pressure appears,
Pelican or person, we all experience
persistent and perpetual persuasion to
perform like the pack-even if we have to
stand on one foot to do it. "I guess you'd
go jump in the ocean if your pals did," is
a perennial people-parent complaint, when
commendation of contemporaries precludes
progenitorial approval. And that's just
what a pubescent pelican does with his
peers on the pier: jumps in the ocean.
