The Nutcracker ETA Hoffmann / An Leysen
It is Christmas Eve and Clara with her brother Fritz are excited!
Every year uncle Drosselmeyer brings them special Christmas gifts.
This year Clara gets a wooden soldier. It's a nutcracker and Fritz
thinks he looks a bit silly, but Clara falls in love with his big,
kind eyes. And that night she discovers her new friend can do a lot
more than crack nuts. He used to be a brave soldier who fell in love
with a real princess!
In this magical picture book An Leysen gives the classic Christmas
story by E.T.A. Hoffmann a new look. Her evocative art will transport
you to the wonderful world of the mean mouse king and the beautiful
Sugar Plum Fairy. For children aged 5 and up, and for everyone who

Nativities of the World by Susan Topp Weber
This book includes photographs of over ninety-six nativities
from all over the world. Each nativities is shown in full
color, with supporting text by Susan Topp Weber. The appendix
lists where collections of nativities can be seen in the
United States and Europe.
The nativities that appear in Weber's book have never been
published. Their materials range from wheat straw
(Bangladesh) to wrought iron (Ecuador) to churro wool
(Navajo) to felt (Kazakhstan) to stone (Peru). An Australian
version features native animals, such as kangaroos.
A Slovakian artist created a nativity from corn husks. A
Czech fiber artist wove the Holy Family from bobbin lace. An
Irish knitter stitched the stable scene in wool. An Hawaiian
artist made the shelter from a coconut; the star above it is
a tiny starfish.
Susan began collecting in 1965 and has sold nativities since
1978 in her Santa Fe shop, Susan's Christmas Shop.
