Yvonne Sutherland's Happy Hens is an original concept, based on traditional 
poultry breeds once kept by the early pioneer women of New Zealand.

Happy Hens are made in Yvonne's studio & workshop at Portobello on the beautiful 
Otago Peninsula, just north of Dunedin, on the South Island of New Zealand.  


Happy Hens are hand decorated ceramic art from Dunedin, New Zealand.  These colorful chickens were created by Yvonne Sutherland.

These hand-decorated ceramic hens have become a firmly established object of New Zealand folk-art and have won both a New Zealand export award in 1989 
and a Spirit of Dunedin Award in 2003. 
Their appeal is universal and their magic provokes good humour!

John first discovered Happy Hens on a business trip to New Zealand in 1996, 
where his hosts in Auckland, had several Hens lined up along their kitchen 
window sill for Good Luck.  Go on then, brighten up your kitchen.  They also 
make excellent gifts.
