Glühwein - Christmas Wine

Although a 2010 Introduction, we added this Hot spiced Wine,
or Mulled Wine to our offering this year...
It is the traditional beverage offered and drunk during the
Christmas holidays. It is usually prepared from red wine,
heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods,
cloves, citrus and sugar. Fruit wines such as blueberry wine
and cherry wine are rarely used instead of grape wine in
Germany. Glühwein is drunk pure or "mit Schuss" (with a
shot), which means there is rum or liqueur added.

Grappa - Italian Cordial

This 2010 Introduction, was added in 2012 to our collection...
this most famous of Italian beverages just had to be included.
Grappa is made by distilling the skins, pulp, seeds, and stems
(i.e., the pomace) left over from wine making after pressing
the grapes. It was originally made to prevent waste by using
these leftovers.
Grappa is now a protected name in the European Union. To be
called grappa, the following criteria must be met:
(1) Produced in Italy
(2) Produced from pomace
(3) Fermentation and distillation must occur on the pomace
- no added water

Tequila
Elaborado de Agave Azul
Gourmet Christmas
Tequila is made from distilled sap from hearts of the agave or
maguey plant. This plant is actually related to the lily and
amaryllis (it has its own genus, Agave). It is known as a
succulent and, although it shares a common habitat with many
cacti, it is not one itself and has a different life cycle. A
mature agave has leaves 5-8 feet tall, and is 7-12 feet in
diameter. It has a lifespan of 8-15 years, depending on
species, growing conditions and climate. The name agave comes
from the Greek word for 'noble.'
There are 136 species of agave in Mexico, of which the blue
agave - agave tequilana weber azul - is the only one allowed
for use in tequila production. Agave has been cultivated on
this continent for at least 9,000 years.
