Woodturning timber into beautiful smokers, 
nutcrackers and other crafts developed in 
the region of Saxony known as the 
Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains).  When the Ore 
was exhausted leaving the mines barren, 
many of the locals turned their hands to 
woodturning, hence the industry flourished 
in the Erzgebirge region bordering the 
Czech Republic.

This Erzgebirge Miner is dressed for the 
holidays in his finest parade uniform.  He 
also doubles as a candle holder!
