These traditional smokers have been produced by a variety of smaller firms within
the Erzgebirgsche region of former East Germany. It is within these mining hills
that the craft of turning wood into little figures that would burn incense first began.
These Räuchermännchen have been created in Saxony since 1856.

Santa with Twigs Smoker
A Santa Smoker is sort of a must to a
collector of these German incense burners,
and this one is perfect. He's a very
traditional hunched Santa, with a handful
of sticks in one hand. In the oldest
tradition of St. Nicholas, the sticks are
for those children that we're naughty.
Made in the Erzgebirge by Gahlenz,
this is a small German firm who's designs
have virtually gone unaltered since the
communist era within former East Germany.
