Q. What is Conservation Framing?

A. While not totally answered with one simple statement, it involves the usage of matting materials and mounting techniques that meet the Guidelines for Framing Works of Art on Paper & Canvas drafted by the Professional Picture Framers Association. It also incorporates mounting techniques that are easily reversible and special glazing materials.
Materials incorporated should not harm the value of the artwork in any way, should be reversible and in most cases should provide additional protection from outside elements.
In the hands of a qualified framer, we can greatly reduce the risks faced by works that are displayed.
