Expert Advice
Q. A friend of mine has three limited edition prints by wildlife artist and illustrator Wm. R. Perry: all are bird prints-one of a black crow, one of a road runner, one of a cardinal and one of a pheasant. These are beautiful color prints, published through the now defunct Nature's Gallery of Tulsa, Oklahoma, back in the 1970's. I think this artist is deceased--I have tried to find out info. on him and more of his works and any values his prints have. Can you help me find out more about this artist, who was from Oklahoma, and if his prints are available from any galleries? thank you!!!!

A. Elizabeth,

Since I replied to you three years ago, I have since received a reply from a daughter of the artist and I will share this information with you...

"Anyway, William R. Perry (Bill) was my father and he passed away on 25 October 1981 at the age of 66. He was a little known but brilliant, self-taught Oklahoma artist who not only painted all kinds of wildlife but also western art. He mainly worked in watercolor and oils but had mastered any medium set before him. He was just beginning to spread his wings out West when he became ill.

He worked as a commercial artist in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years before he retired at the age of 51 when he embarked on the endeavor of his limited edition bird prints. And I mean limited. Not sure of the exact numbers but probably 1,000 or less each bird. Originally there were a dozen different birds. All were incredibly beautiful paintings that translated well into equally beautiful prints."
